Geo (Burma) : KAYIN-STATE
Located in the south-east of Burma, near the Thai border, the Kayin (or Karen) State is known for its strong cultural : the Kayin people is one of the ethnies which is strongly claiming for more autonomy in Burma. Even if the situation was stabilizing itself durng the last years, this little piece of Burma is still a special place where the suppression of the military junta and the resistance of the local and symbolic army can still sometimes happen !
The landscape is helping this endless hide-and-seek. But the wooded and tormented mountains near the Thai border are changing downhill into a peaceful and fertile plaine, made of rice fields and sheer limestone mountains, which are the ideal (or faded) landscapes that anyone can link to south-east Asia.
Hpa-An (or Pa-An) is the capital of Kayin State. It reflects this plaine' serenity, and only the distinct design from the 'longyi' (traditionnal clothes) reminds us that Kayin State is not Burma...
