Culture (Burma) : BURMESE MONKS

Buddhist teachings tend to encourage monks not to be part of the social life. However, because of increasing contact with the population; a lifestyle that gives them access to culture, reflection and social opinion exchanges; and because their teaching dictates a completely opposite set of ethics to the military dictatorship, it was natural that they became the voice of the people and the most obvious expression of an oppressed country.
